Melancholia is a terrific reference in context of Douglas' post. Especially contrasting confident John's (Kiefer Sutherland) rational/optimistic demeanour and melancholic Justine's (Kirsten Dunst) compassionate and ultimately heroic act in the final scene of the movie.
