Innovation task force aside, contrarians (mavericks) greatly benefit from supportive management who are often the first line of “gatekeeping” an idea. Unfortunately, there are too few managers willing to go out on a limb and face their superiors to back up a “crazy” idea at the risk of jeopardizing their own reputations, promotions, etc. especially where the organizational culture does not truly foster innovation.
