ParLUGment — The LEGO User’s Group of Canada’s Capital Region
Yes, we really are a group of adults that continue to “play” with a children’s toy. But if you take the time to explore who we really are, you’ll see there’s much more to it… We’re dedicated to the creativity and open-ended play that everyone could and should enjoy — the hours of “making” something, the satisfaction of finding the exactly perfect solution to a complicated building problem, and the much-needed stress relief of just zoning out with the brick. Visit ParLUGment at https://www.parlugment.ca/

I HEAR YOU
I HEAR YOU is a generative art installation, which passively records audio and displays AI-generated images depicting the words spoken nearby, exploring the challenges of communication. What we intend to express is often not what’s understood by the listener. This is especially true when attempting to interact with AI agents. Often, these gaps can go unnoticed. I HEAR YOU attempts to highlight these miscommunications, through the use of an AI system that “listens” and “understands”. It doesn’t always listen or understand well. But then, neither do we…

Expressions of Muslim Women
Art has long served as a form of therapy for many people around the world. We aim to raise awareness about Islamophobia and mental health, highlighting how these issues uniquely impact Muslim women. Our goal is to encourage, recruit, and catalogue the talents of Muslim women artists, empowering them to be their own voices. We plan to use video documentation, photography, and create safe spaces for live performances, particularly focusing on women artists from BIPOC communities who face additional barriers and unique challenges in accessing art.

Biodata Sonification
An interactive sound-installation exploring the binaries of “natural” and “unnatural” — human and non-human. The inter-permeability of these categories allows participants to commune with organic plant material to synthesize musical drones and sonic events.
