Exactly. I would go so far as to say that this "crisis of originality" is a also related to a "crisis of imagination". And it precedes the advent of generative AI by decades. Just by way of example, I remember when reality TV shows started to enter the mainstream ... I always thought that this trend was indicative of a lack of effort to imagine something original. Heck, why bother when you can just produce a show without having to hire writers to do the heavy lifting of coming up with an original story. Thirty years later, generative AI, for better or worse, will rapidly fill that ever expanding void of the imagination.
